WeWork - Designing Pricing Management Tool

I led the end-to-end design of a pricing management tool from 0-1, starting with problem discovery and research, through to final implementation. The tool empowers the pricing team to save time and more effectively manage Dedicated and On-Demand plans.

Context

WeWork Voyager is built to support pricing and commitment-based discounts and optimize revenue generation for WeWork through the lever of pricing. I led the design of making the pricing dashboard and maintenance experience in pricing easier and more streamlined.

Problems

WeWork's internal pricing operations relied on outdated, manual processes. The pricing team managed pricing across hundreds of global locations by juggling dozens of spreadsheets, disconnected tools, and ad hoc communications.

Research

To uncover pain points and identify improvement opportunities, I interviewed pricing managers and operations leads who use the internal pricing tool daily. These conversations revealed critical gaps in usability, workflow efficiency, and visibility across locations. This research directly informed the problem statement and design direction, focusing on centralization, searchability, and workflow streamlining.

1

Fragmented Tracking

Teams jump between tools, spreadsheets, and Slack threads to keep track of changes, often missing key context.

2

No Single Source of Truth

The lack of a centralized view makes it harder to spot underperforming locations or adjust pricing strategies efficiently.

Goals

We want to build an MVP of WeWork’s next-generation pricing tool to centralize pricing management and streamline workflows for editing and publishing plans.

1

Centralize with Clarity

Create a single, clear source of truth where pricing managers can easily track, edit, and publish updates without confusion.

2

Simplify Complex Workflow

Minimize the number of steps required to search, update, and review pricing making high complexity tasks feel effortless.

Information Architecture

Redesigned the information architecture to center around a location-first workflow, making it easier for pricing managers to search, edit, and review pricing plans.

Dashboard Design

This dashboard provides a top-level summary of key metrics, including Occupancy, Plan Performance, and Revenue. It also tracks pricing adjustment updates across two core products: Dedicated Space and On-Demand, while helping monitor each location’s financial health.

Final Design: Dedicated Space Pricing Update

To support the pricing team’s need to manage a large volume of complex information, I explored a new data table design optimized for scalability and clarity. I focused on creating a flexible structure with expandable rows, sticky headers, and smart grouping to minimize cognitive load and keep key context visible.

Result

We launched the alpha version of the new pricing management tool to the WeWork pricing team, engaging 100 internal users. User feedback was collected through Google Surveys, and early usage patterns were tracked via Mixpanel. This initial rollout helped validate core workflows and highlighted areas for further refinement.
